"Managers - more than any other factor - influence team engagement and performance."

Gallup

Our business success is the sum of our people.  By definition, our Junior and Middle Managers directly manage more people in our businesses than anyone else.  Yet, all too often, we focus heavily on creating vision, direction and culture at senior levels only to wonder why we fail to effectively deliver that on the ground.

We can change that by properly equipping our Junior and Middle Managers with the understanding and tools to make a difference on the ground today and equip them to be our leaders of the future.

Helping Managers succeed from the bottom up

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

I found it really useful how simply all the theories were laid out, how they intertwined with one another and gave a really good overall picture of how to curate good performance.

Business Manager, E-commerce

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

Genuinely useful and enjoyable coaching sessions. Ian’s gift, beyond the immense knowledge he has built up from 30 years in the business, is his ability to guide you along to the answer you probably knew all along - it just needed bringing to the surface. I’d recommended for anyone at any stage of their career that has a specific concern or area they feel needs improvement.

Head of Marketing, E-commerce

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

I highly recommend Ian if you want external help in getting the results you are aspiring for. His approach is done in a clever way where you answer your own questions but is also very helpful in advice given his background.

Senior Manager, Print & Production

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

The radical candor section was very insightful and something that made me think about implementing straight away. Maslow's needs was a principle I was aware of, but had never thought about it in a work context which was a bit of a light bulb moment.

Telemarketing Manager, E-Commerce / Mail Order

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

I found the workshop highly beneficial, especially the practical tips, the collaborative discussions and the decision-making frameworks… Thanks for the great session!

Engineering Manager, FinTech

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

I had the privilege of attending the "Are we a team?" workshop in Madrid, organized by Ian Glen.  Kudos to the organizer for fostering an engaging and collaborative environment and for the helpful insights!  Highly recommend for anyone eager to transform a group into a cohesive, high-performing team.

Engineering Manager, FinTech

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

Highly recommend Ian, extremely worthwhile experience for me and I am already reaping the benefits on the sessions

Philosphy & Approach

While I centre my training firmly in research and theory, I bring extensive real-life experience to the table.  In choosing “Actuality360” as a moniker, it encompasses two important philosophies:

Actuality – bringing reality to business.  Too many theories and one-size-fits-all approaches still exist in management.  There are few quick fixes – think Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hours of practice – but what we can do is embed and train our managers with the skills they need to use and practice.

360 – bottom up, middle out & top down.  Creating successful management can’t just be achieved by a top down, trickle-down effect.  Real transformation needs to be accelerated across the business, working from the bottom up and middle out just as much as from the top down.  Only then do you see rapid change and cross-business consistency.  I’m as likely to work with a senior management team to develop strategies to develop their management team, as with the most junior managers delivering them high quality training and coaching.

At the heart of my approach is what I describe as the Six Facets of Excellent Management.

Fairness

Be fair to your team, the business and yourself. Fairness requires even-handedness and respect but also honesty and openness.

Ambition

Have the ambition to drive forward. Develop yourself and your team by pushing beyond the “comfort zone”. Set meaningful goals.

Communication

Communicate with clarity and candour to your team, your boss, and your stakeholders.

The 6
FACETS
of Excellent Management

Empowerment

Develop your team by empowering them through effective delegation. Give them the confidence to take risks and learn from mistakes.

Team-focus

Create a team-focus where the sum of the team is worth more than its individual members. Remember, you lead a team but are part of many others.

Support

Train, coach and develop your team. Provide support and care for their emotional as well as direct job needs.
